Frequently asked questions
How much does a Ceylon sapphire ring cost in Sri Lanka?
Ceylon sapphire rings at The Colored Stone Co. start from LKR 245,000 for a natural, heated sapphire under 1ct in 18K gold. Blue is the most expensive colour and violet the most accessible, and the price rises with stone size, up to LKR 1,095,000 for a 1.5ct+ blue sapphire. The table above shows the range for each colour.
What is a Ceylon sapphire?
A Ceylon sapphire is a natural sapphire from Sri Lanka, historically called Ceylon, where the gem gravels around Ratnapura — the “City of Gems” — have produced fine sapphires since antiquity. Sapphire is corundum, rates 9 on the Mohs scale, and comes in blue, pink, violet, and other colours.
How do I know a sapphire ring is a genuine Ceylon sapphire?
Ask for a certificate from an independent gemological lab — a well-established local lab such as CGJ or GIC — stating Ceylon (Sri Lanka) origin and treatment status. Every centre stone we set comes with one, and we send real photos and video of the actual stone before the ring is made.
Are sapphire rings suitable for everyday wear?
Yes. Sapphire is the second-hardest natural gemstone after diamond (Mohs 9), so a sapphire ring holds up to daily wear for decades without special care. Over many years it can pick up fine surface scratches that are not visible in normal viewing; a diamond (Mohs 10) does not.
How long does it take to make a sapphire ring?
A sapphire ring from The Colored Stone Co. takes 2–4 weeks to make once the stone and design are confirmed. Every gold ring is made to order in our Colombo workshop, and we ask for a deposit before stone sourcing begins — it is refunded in full if we cannot source a stone that matches your requirement.
Do you ship sapphire rings overseas?
Yes. We ship sapphire rings worldwide, insured and tracked, and overseas buyers order entirely over WhatsApp with real photos and video of the stone. Shipping cost and delivery time are confirmed at the time of order — see our international ordering guide.
