How to Buy a Ceylon Sapphire Ring From the UAE (2026 Guide)

The Colored Stone Co. · September 2026 · 7 min read

Yes — you can buy a Ceylon sapphire ring from the UAE without visiting Sri Lanka. The entire process happens over WhatsApp: you confirm a design, we source a certified sapphire or diamond and send real photos before anything is set, then ship the finished piece to you, insured, in 18K gold. Prices start from around AED 2,467 (LKR 215,000) for a lab-grown diamond ring and AED 2,812 (LKR 245,000) for a Ceylon sapphire ring.

Why UAE Buyers Order Direct From Sri Lanka

Most gold jewellery sold in the UAE is priced primarily by weight, at the day's gold rate — the design and craftsmanship are usually a smaller part of what you're paying for. A custom Ceylon sapphire ring is a different kind of purchase entirely: the centrepiece is a rare, certified stone, not the gold around it, and the price reflects the sapphire itself plus the work of designing and setting it by hand. If what you're after is a specific, one-of-a-kind piece built around a stone you've actually seen photos and video of — rather than a design picked off a shelf and priced by the gram — that's the gap we fill.

There's also a practical advantage for UAE buyers specifically: the time difference between the UAE and Sri Lanka is only about an hour and a half, among the smallest of any of our overseas markets. WhatsApp conversations during the design and sourcing process happen close to real time, without the multi-day communication lag that buyers ordering from further away deal with.

Ordering From the UAE: How It Works

You don't need to visit Sri Lanka, and the process is the same one we use for every custom order — just conducted entirely over WhatsApp and settled by bank transfer.

  • Message us with your budget, design ideas, and what you have in mind — a photo or a rough description is enough to start.
  • Confirm your design and pay a deposit. This secures your order and starts the stone-sourcing process.
  • We source your stone and send real photographs and video of the actual sapphire or diamond before it's set — not a catalogue image.
  • We craft your piece in our Colombo workshop. Most custom rings are completed in 2–4 weeks; more complex designs can take up to 5 weeks.
  • We ship it to the UAE, insured, with tracking details sent as soon as it's dispatched.

Shipping to the UAE

We ship every international order, including to the UAE, via FedEx or EMS (Sri Lanka Post's international express service) — FedEx typically takes 3–5 days, EMS around 2 weeks. Every shipment is insured by default, with no separate insurance fee to add.

Customs Duty Goods entering the UAE can be subject to customs duty, assessed by UAE customs authorities on arrival based on the item's value and classification. We don't currently offer a duties-paid (prepaid) option, so any duty owed is payable by you on import, separately from the LKR price. If the potential cost matters to your decision, we'd recommend checking current UAE customs guidance on importing personal goods before ordering.

Pricing in LKR (With AED Conversions)

All pricing is in Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) — the same as for local customers, with no separate rate for overseas buyers. The figures below are approximate AED conversions at time of writing (September 2026) to help you budget; the exact LKR amount is always what's confirmed and charged. For a full breakdown by stone type, carat, and setting, see our engagement ring price guide.

Category From (LKR) ≈ AED
Lab-grown diamond ring, 18K gold 215,000 2,467
Ceylon sapphire ring, 18K gold 245,000 2,812
Natural diamond ring, 18K gold 565,000 6,484

Approximate conversion at time of writing (September 2026), based on USD≈LKR 320 and the UAE dirham's fixed peg of AED 3.6725 to USD 1 (in place since 1997). Actual conversion rates fluctuate with the underlying USD/LKR rate — your bank or transfer provider's rate on the day will apply. Shipping and any UAE customs duty are calculated separately and are not included in these figures.

Returns & Resizing From the UAE

Returns are available on ready-made pieces, but not on made-to-order or fully custom pieces, since these are crafted specifically to your brief. On an eligible return, you cover all shipping and any related costs both ways.

If a piece needs resizing after it arrives in the UAE, we can help — it will need to be shipped back to our Colombo workshop, with you covering shipping both ways. For the full policy that applies to every international order, see our international orders page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order a Ceylon sapphire ring from the UAE without visiting Sri Lanka?

Yes. The entire process — sharing your idea, confirming the design, paying the deposit, and approving the stone — happens over WhatsApp. We ship the finished piece to the UAE, insured, once it's complete.

How much does a Ceylon sapphire ring cost from the UAE?

Ceylon sapphire rings in 18K gold start from around LKR 245,000 (approximately AED 2,812 at time of writing). The exact price depends on the sapphire's size, colour, and clarity — see our engagement ring price guide for a full breakdown, or message us with your budget for guidance.

How long does shipping to the UAE take?

We ship via FedEx (typically 3–5 days) or EMS (typically around 2 weeks), and every international shipment is insured by default at no extra cost. This is in addition to the 2–4 week production time for a custom piece.

Will I have to pay customs duty in the UAE?

Possibly, depending on your order's value and classification — this is assessed by UAE customs authorities on arrival and is your responsibility, separately from the LKR price we charge. We don't currently offer a duties-paid option, so we'd recommend checking current UAE customs guidance on importing personal goods if the potential cost matters to your decision.

How do I pay for an order from the UAE?

By bank transfer. We'll confirm the exact amount in LKR and send transfer details once your design and price are finalised — the same process used for every international order.

Why is a custom Ceylon sapphire ring priced differently from gold jewellery sold by weight in the UAE?

Gold sold by weight is priced mainly on the day's gold rate, with design playing a smaller role. A custom Ceylon sapphire ring is priced on the sapphire itself — its size, colour, and clarity — plus the gold and the craftsmanship of a one-of-a-kind design, which is why the two aren't directly comparable on a per-gram basis.
