How to shop for wedding rings in Sri Lanka (2026 guide)

The Colored Stone Co. · May 2026 · 6 min read

Shopping for wedding rings in Sri Lanka is simpler than most couples expect — but only if you approach it in the right order. Budget first. Timeline second. Style last. Get those three things sorted before you start browsing, and the rest of the process falls into place. This guide walks through each stage practically, so you know exactly what to prepare and what to expect.

For a full breakdown of every style, metal, and design option available, the wedding bands guide covers everything in detail. This post is the practical companion — focused on the buying process itself.

Start with the budget

The metal you choose determines the price range, and the price range determines everything else. In Sri Lanka, the two metal options for wedding rings are 925 sterling silver and 18K gold. They occupy very different price tiers, so it is worth being clear on which direction you are heading before you start looking at designs.

Ring type 925 silver 18K gold
Ready-made plain band From LKR 14,900 From LKR 195,000
Custom band (metalwork) From LKR 50,000 From LKR 150,000
Stone-set band From LKR 30,000 From LKR 250,000
Half-eternity / pavé From LKR 280,000+

Custom prices are for metalwork only. Stone cost is quoted separately. All prices are indicative — contact us for an exact quote.

If you are also buying or have bought an engagement ring, our engagement ring price guide explains how ring pricing works in Sri Lanka — the same logic applies to wedding bands. Budget for both rings together rather than treating the wedding band as an afterthought.

Work out the timeline

The biggest mistake couples make when buying wedding rings is starting too late. Custom pieces take time — and the closer you get to the wedding date, the less room there is to refine the design or adjust the fit.

The general rule: start the conversation at least 6–8 weeks before the ceremony. Here is why that timeline works.

  • Weeks 1–2: Design consultation and confirmation. You share your ideas, we work out the specifications, nothing goes to production until you sign off.
  • Weeks 2–5: Production. Standard custom bands take 2–4 weeks. More complex pieces (engraved full eternity, pavé-set, fitted bridal bands) may take up to 3–5 weeks.
  • Delivery: 2–4 days islandwide after production is complete.
  • Buffer: Any remaining time before the ceremony is your safety margin for fit adjustments or last-minute changes.

If you need rings quickly, ready-made pieces can be delivered in 2–4 days. Browse our wedding bands for him and wedding bands for her collections to see what is available now.

Custom or ready-made?

Both routes work well. The decision usually comes down to what matters most to you.

Good to Know

Choose ready-made if: you have a tight timeline, you prefer to see exactly what you are buying before committing, or you want the most accessible price point.

Choose custom if: you want specific dimensions, a particular finish, engraving, a matched pair designed to sit together, or a band made to fit flush against an existing engagement ring.

For couples ordering together, custom is often the better choice — you get both rings designed as a coordinated pair, with the same finish or profile running across his and hers. The custom order process page explains exactly how that works from start to finish.

If you already have an engagement ring

A wedding band worn alongside an engagement ring needs to be chosen with that ring in mind. Two things matter most:

Fit. Rings with large centre stones, cathedral settings, or curved shanks may not sit flush against a standard flat band. In that case, you need a shaped or fitted band made to follow the engagement ring’s profile. If your engagement ring was made by us, we have the original design on file and can make the wedding band to fit it exactly.

Metal. The simplest approach is matching the metal of the wedding band to the engagement ring. Mixed metals can work, but are worth seeing together in person before committing. A 2–4mm band in the same metal as the engagement ring is the most classic and versatile choice.

The full guide to matching your wedding band to your engagement ring — including stone options and width guidance — is covered in the engagement ring guide and the wedding bands guide.

What to prepare before you get in touch

You do not need to have everything figured out before you message us — that is what the consultation is for. But having a few things ready speeds up the process considerably.

  • The ceremony date. This sets the production timeline and helps us advise which route is realistic for your situation.
  • Your ring sizes. Both finger sizes if ordering as a couple. Professional sizing is more accurate than self-measurement — our ring size guide explains how to get an accurate measurement before you order.
  • Metal preference. Silver, yellow gold, white gold, or rose gold — or a mix across the pair.
  • A reference image. One or two photos of rings you like. They do not need to be identical to what you want — they just give us a starting point for the conversation.
  • Engagement ring details (if applicable). A photo of the ring, or the design if it was made by us. This helps us advise on fit and profile before anything is produced.

The entire process — design, confirmation, production, and delivery — runs over WhatsApp. There is no need to visit the showroom, though appointments at 195 Galle Road, Bambalapitiya are available if you would prefer to see pieces in person before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I buy wedding rings in Sri Lanka?

For custom wedding rings, start the conversation at least 6–8 weeks before the ceremony. This gives enough time for design consultation, production (2–4 weeks), delivery, and any fit adjustments. Ready-made pieces can be delivered in 2–4 days if you have less time available.

Can I get both wedding rings made together?

Yes. Ordering as a couple is the most efficient way to get matching or coordinated rings — we plan both designs together in a single conversation, ensuring the finish and profile are consistent across the pair. Start the conversation together and mention both requirements upfront.

Do I need to visit the showroom?

No. Everything — design, confirmation, production, and delivery — works over WhatsApp. If you would prefer to see existing pieces before deciding, showroom visits are available by appointment at 195 Galle Road, Bambalapitiya, Colombo. We ship islandwide and internationally.

What if my ring size changes between ordering and the wedding?

Plain and lightly engraved bands can usually be resized after delivery. Heavily set bands across the full circumference (full eternity, full pavé) cannot be resized, so it is worth getting your size confirmed professionally before ordering. Mention any sizing concerns during the consultation — we can advise based on the specific design.

Is it better to buy the wedding band at the same time as the engagement ring?

If you know the style of engagement ring you want, yes — buying or at least planning both rings together means the wedding band can be designed to fit flush against the engagement ring from the start. If the engagement ring is already made, bring a photo or description to the wedding band consultation so we can account for the profile and setting.

Start the conversation whenever you are ready. Message us with your date and we will work out the right approach for your timeline.
