Valentine's Day jewellery guide 2027: gifts and proposal rings

The Colored Stone Co. · November 2026 · 9 min read

Valentine's Day covers two very different kinds of jewellery shopping: a gift for a partner, or a proposal. Both need to be planned earlier than most people expect, because gold is made to order. This guide covers both paths — what to buy, at what budget, and by when you need to order it for February 14th.

Planning a proposal for Valentine's Day?

Valentine's Day is one of the most common proposal dates of the year, alongside Christmas and New Year's — which means the engagement ring order queue fills up in January. If a proposal is the plan, this is the piece to start earliest.

Ring type Production time Order by (for Feb 14)
Standard setting, in-range stone 2–4 weeks, made to order Mid-January
Custom design or specific rare stone (padparadscha, unheated sapphire) 3–5 weeks, made to order Early January
International shipping Add 5–10 days transit Build in the extra week

If you're still deciding between a diamond and a sapphire, or lab-grown and natural, our engagement ring guide covers every stone type and price tier. For a lower-cost route to a bigger, brilliant stone, see our lab-grown diamond rings page. For something with colour and a Sri Lankan story, browse sapphire engagement rings.

Don't know their ring size? Our ring size guide covers a few discreet ways to work it out, and rings can be resized afterward if the guess is slightly off.

Not proposing? Gifts by budget

Most Valentine's jewellery gifts aren't engagement rings — they're a smaller gesture that says the relationship matters. Here's what fits at each budget:

Budget (LKR) Best options
Under 20,000 Silver pendant, silver earrings — in stock, no wait
20,000 – 60,000 Silver promise ring, silver tennis bracelet, small sapphire pendant
60,000 – 150,000 Gold promise ring, gold sapphire pendant
150,000+ Fine sapphire jewellery, entry-level engagement ring for an early proposal

Not ready for an engagement ring but want to say something serious

A promise ring is the most common choice here — a step beyond a standard gift, well short of a proposal. It works well as a Valentine's gift precisely because it doesn't carry the same expectation.

Something colourful and personal

A Ceylon sapphire pendant or pair of earrings reads as thoughtful rather than generic — pink or blue both work well as a Valentine's gift, and the colour choice can reflect their taste specifically rather than a default red-and-hearts theme.

Quick and no-risk

Silver is stocked at our showroom and available same-day — a silver tennis bracelet or a pendant from our pendant collection is a safe, well-made option if you're shopping close to the day.

Frequently asked questions

When should I order an engagement ring for a Valentine's Day proposal?

Order by mid-January for a standard design, or early January if you want a custom design or a specific rare stone. Gold rings are made to order and take 2–4 weeks minimum. If you're ordering later than that, message us on WhatsApp first — we'll tell you honestly whether February 14th is achievable.

What if I'm shopping the week before Valentine's Day?

Silver. Every silver piece is stocked at our showroom and available immediately. For a proposal specifically at that late notice, WhatsApp us directly — we may be able to work something out depending on what's involved, but we won't promise a date we can't hit.

What's a good Valentine's gift that isn't an engagement ring?

A promise ring, a sapphire pendant, or a pair of earrings all work well without carrying engagement-level expectations. Silver options are in stock for last-minute shopping; gold pieces need the lead time noted above.

Still deciding?
